For more than thirty years, Rex Banks, Doctor of Audiology, has been a noteworthy leader, teacher and advocate in the field of audiology. He has been honored with major industry awards recognizing his contributions for advocacy, humanitarianism and leadership and has acted as Chair of the Board of Directors for several professional associations.
Rex has been a research advisor to Statistics Canada, co-authoring papers on tinnitus, hearing health problems and unperceived hearing loss and a research contributor to Health Quality Ontario’s Health Technology Assessment Series on bilateral cochlear implantation, implantable devices for single-sided deafness and auditory brainstem implantations. He has spent many years supporting individuals with acoustic neuromas and conducted research on constructing an algorithm to help identify and manage patients with acoustic nerve dysfunction. Rex has held adjunct professorships at several universities during his career, teaching undergraduate and doctorate level students and has presented at local, national and international conferences.
Rex holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Disorders from the University of Mississippi, a Master of Arts in Audiology from the University of Tennessee and a Doctor of Audiology degree from A. T. Still University of Health Sciences. He is often called upon by the media to comment on a range of hearing health issues that affect Canadians.
